Meet little Adriana. What can be more feminine than pink and lace? I love the simplicity of a baby curled up on  a plain backdrop. A photograph like this is timeless. Whenever I am only photographing  a newborn and not doing sibling portraits, I start with a baby in an outfit. I like to photograph the baby posed on its tummy, then on its back.

I let the parents choose an outfit that they like best from my collection. This pink romper is definitely a favorite. Most babies love to sleep on their tummy so it’s the pose I start with. A baby curled up on their tummy is typically the easiest pose for most babies to do. Even though the recommendation for newborns is to have them sleep on their back, I tend to have a harder time posing them that way since many babies have a strong “startle reflex”. I have to get  my shots in very quickly with this pose because I may only have a few seconds before the baby moves out of the pose.

I have many little “lovies” to choose from to get a cuddle shot with the baby. Adriana’s parents chose the unicorn.

Froggy pose is one of my favorite poses. Not every baby will do this pose, but most will.

Parents get to choose their favorite prop from my collection. Adriana’s parent chose my chaise lounge. I love this prop not only for newborns, but also for older babies, young kids, and sibling shots.
